As promised, here are yesterday's err...last week's finds (don't forget...I'm a mommy first)...all polished up.
Way one: Biz Cas (business casual guys, come on). the belt over this is so smart, and the red skirt still looks conservative and polished. You could easily do a button-up all tucked in with this too...or...
...pair it with boots, and a t-shirt and you've got a way to wear it dressed down as well. I'm currently in love with red and purple together too, so this cardi works spot on! I know a red pencil skirt might seem like a ridiculous staple, but it's crazy versatile. I've already thought of 3 other ways I'd want to put this together, a jean jacket, a black tank and grey scarf...somebody stop me!
Ok. Here you have it. The Claire Huxtable closet find. I took the shoulder pads out and threw it on with a pair of black jeans (that were tighter than I remembered--even after my "tight jean lunges and yoga poses") cuffed to be more of a cigarette pant and I'm kinda loving it. Not gonna lie though...gold jackets are not for the faint of heart. You'd have to have the right place to wear it...like Vegas?
The "nun shirt" is too sweet. I threw on a long pearl necklace that I wrapped around as a bracelet and it gives it just right. But pairing something as classic and "dress-up-doll" as a lace collar and pearls, with something as modern as a dark wash skinny jean makes it wearable. I tried it tucked in, but should only brave something like that before eating pasta...not after. Alas, untucked it is for now!
Which one is your favorite? Which would you wear?
I love the top one, the belted polka dots with the red skirt! I am one who has to identify that I have a waist so I don't look like a linebacker, so this is a nice way to do it.
ReplyDeleteI have never bought clothes in a thrift store... what if...? :)
What if...we got to go together! Dynamic Duo!
DeleteSO I need a red pencil skirt now... but I do have a navy one sitting in my closet so I can't wait to play with that! I would wear all these looks (except maybe the gold shirt..unless I had matching spray-painted running shoes...) . You should have owned all these things when I lived with you so that I could have borrowed them!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm dying to play dress up with your navy pencil skirt!
DeleteI love the first one! Not sure I could pull it off with my post-baby and allergies-have-been-so-bad-I-haven't-been-sticking-with-at-home-pilates belly, buuuuut it is super cute. And actually, maybe the skirt would help, because it would go OVER that area and draw attention to just below the bust line? And the "nun" shirt is really cute, too. Maybe you can add your thoughts on body types and what works/doesn't for some of the styles every now and then.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, good idea! I'll try and get my head around that one! And that pencil skirt is fantastic for the very reason you mentioned...I call it "pouch control"
DeleteI like this blog even more than watching, "What Not to Wear." :-) You know "real" life in Colorado and can give us relevant tips. Can you imagine how far $5000 would go at the thrift stores! Only in my dreams, I guess. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole! When are you gonna invite me over ;)
